Milkha Singh, an ace sprinter, of our country, collapsed to the dreaded COVID-19 on Friday, the 18th June 2021. The 91-year-old ace sprinter-sportsman had been grappling with the infection for almost a month and succumbed to it last night.
Milkha Singh dies
Only a few days ago, Milkha Singh had lost his wife, Nirmal Kaur, a former volleyball captain to COVID-19 also. The two are survived by their three daughters and golfer son Chiranjeev (Jeev) Milkha Singh.
Love story in heavens
Theirs was a love story to beckon. Now, united they stand forever in the heavens above! A gentleman to the core and a wonderful lady at heart, both Milkha Singh and Nirmal Kaur were a wonderful and sporty couple. Milkha Singh, a Padma Shri awardee, was passionate about golf till his last. At the same time, bad knees and terrible pain did not stop Mrs. Nirmal Milkha Singh from visually indulging in different sports.
Milkha Singh often stated “Life has given me more than what I deserved. I can’t help saying this each time I am asked to reflect on my life.” We have been fortunate to share his early life and traumatic partition experiences in the movie “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”.
Pray to live and die healthy
Talking about the same Milkha Singh was heard saying “God wanted me to play a part in bringing glory to India and bestowed me and my family with all the goodness. My country and countrymen gave me more than what I could ever expect. Now, I pray to live and die healthy.” Jogging and perspiring away disease was his mantra to live before COVID-19 cooped him in the hospital. The husband and wife have inspired many, may their souls rest together in peace!
